Seeing the photos of both of these tissue box covers stirred up a childhood memory. Me being a pre-teen, walking into the bathroom belonging to my bff family who lived down the street and seeing a colorful crochet toilet paper roll cover with a little girl doll sitting on top. Do you remember those? (Circa 70’s something) I decided I must give each of these tissue box cover patterns a go. The rectangle pattern comes from The Royal Sisters blog who so graciously wrote the tutorial for us. The yarn; 3 colors of Cotton Stria by Manos del Uruguay. The hook; size 3.50. It took me about 3 hours to work up. Thank you Michelle, for your generosity! The Square pattern comes from DanielaH at Ravelry (free download). The yarn; 3 colors of dk Special by Stylecraft. The hook; 3.50 and this one took a little over two hours to complete. Thank you Daniela for this great pattern. With cold and flu season just around the corner, I thought it would be nice to have something pretty to look at if any one in the family is in need of tissue.

Lovely work Karen, both of your tissue box covers are so Pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI remember those dolly toilet roll covers :)
I also had a big version of one of those sitting on my bed made from knitting nylon (remeber that stuff) I loved my bed doll so much she was different shades of pink and had a beautiful lacy crochet dress that spread out into a large circle, and best of all she was made by my Nanna :) - thank you for the memories!
Yours are so much cuter than those I remember being all over town as a kid.
ReplyDeleteThese stir up memories for me as well Karen - my grandmothers both had handmade tissue box covers in their homes - so many many years ago. These are so lovely - a wonderful story my friend.

Love your blog and the tissue box covers - I read about the fingerless gloves with the buttons on your blog and requested a copy of the pattern from Jellywares but haven't heard back from her - I'm sure she's quite busy. If you could send me a copy of the pdf I would really appreciate it - I love the look of the gloves with the buttons...my email is vickiecar@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks so much,
