Lets here it for leftovers…

Finished up the granny square throw I’ve been working on.

I’m not sure why it has been one of the most fun and rewarding projects I’ve ever work on, but it is.
Is it because I’ve become obsessed with all things granny square,
or that the yarn came from my stash, so essentially it is free,
or because I feel like I’m doing my part being ‘green’ by using up my leftovers,
or because I have never before been so bold with color combining, or is it because at the completion of each and every square it became my favorite?

Well, I think it is a bit of all the above.

While making up squares, I found myself going back into my stash over and over again looking for yet another yarn to add to the mix.  I’d think oh, how did I miss this little ball of a slightly different shade of blue or green yarn sitting in the bottom of a bag? Come with me, you’re next.  I looked forward to each time I could sit down with hook and yarn and escape into this project.

My daughter came over for a visit and noticed the pile of squares I had sitting on my desk, and asked, what are you making?  I took them off the desk and laid them out on the bed in no particular order and told her it was going to be a throw.  We both gushed over the 40+ squares and then she told me that she just loved them. I thought, ok, note to self, daughters birthday is just around the corner… Now the pile of squares had a mission, to become a gift.  Ahh, as if I needed any new motivation to continue on, as I do love gift giving!  Now that the squares have been joined, edged and finished, I get to enjoy my creation for a few more weeks till I give it to my darling daughter on her birthday.  The gift to me has been the process of making it and the anticipation of seeing her face when she opens up the package.

I have to give credit where credit is due.  As I mentioned in a previous blog, the granny square and edging pattern are from Attic24 Summer-garden-granny-square and  Granny blanket edging tutorials.  The joining method came from Carina’s craftblog Granny square joining tutorial.  A great big hug and thank you goes out to you both.  Creative bloggers are so generous with their sharing.  What an amazing and talented community.

p.s. it took about 4 skeins of Lamb’s Pride worsted in the color M-89 Roasted Coffee to join and edge the granny squares.
