kvosin hat pattern by Stephen West

West knits has done it again.  Designer Stephen West has created yet another set of gorgeous knitting patterns via his latest KAL; Westy’s Besties featuring Brooklyn Tweed yarns Loft & Shelter.  All 12 patterns are available thru Ravelry.  BTs Jared Flood photographed these beauties in Iceland and the pictures are downright spectacular!  Such a great collaboration.  There is also a group on Ravelry for this KAL, sweet…

Brooklyn Tweed Loft

I decided to start with the hat pattern, Kvosin, using Loft yarn. It is worked in four parts. Mine is still in progress and I’ve completed two sections thus far.  It is so challenging and engaging due to its multiple construction methods.  Part 1 features a section of multi colored fair isle, what me? fair isle?  I can’t believe I’ve been so intimidated by the thought of this technique.  The directions and chart made it easy to give it a go. Once I completed this section, I was over the moon happy!

I then knit section two in a single color to form the body of the hat with alternating blocks of stockinette and garter ridges.

I’m currently working section three, the brim, featuring cable work.  Finally, I’ll move on to the last section for the crown shaping in cables.

Kvosin is such an interesting knit and with its infinite possibilities of color choices, it has had me enthralled from the moment I set eyes on it.  I can’t stop thinking about it or wait to get back to it. This project has helped me to once again appreciate Loft yarn, especially now that I 'get' that it requires a gentle touch and loose handling while knitting.  I’ve learned to relax my hands and grasp of the needles while knitting its stitches. I'll have my Kvosin finished soon so I can share it as a fo.  Stay tuned...

What have I been up to lately you might ask?  Well I’ve rekindled my obsession with the pattern, toast, by designer Leslie Friend (visit her blog; a friend to knit with…)

I made sever pairs last winter and they disappeared as fast as I cast them off the needles. This season, I’ve made a pair in Brooklyn Tweeds; Loft, two pairs in Malabrigo lace, colors blue and grey.

I love knitting with my size 2-12” circulars.  They make knitting in the round so much easier than double points.  The results; wrist warmers that are soft, cozy and well just plain fun to wear!

Wonder how long before this batch disappear?

Warmy wurm; such a silly name for a cozy little hat...

  I’ve had this free pattern by designer, Katharina Nopp, in my ravelry que for quite some time.  It wasn’t untill I visited the Yarn Harlot’s blog and read about the Wurm she had made for her daughter, that I remembered I want to make one of my own.  I don’t know if it is the way she photographed it or the lovely yarn she used that spurred the inspiration to put yarn to needle, but I have to tell ya it is one quick and satisfying knit.  The folded over brim is what makes it especially warm.  I made mine with Madelinetosh sport, in the colorway Georgia O'Keefe, on a size 6 - 16" circular needle.  I can even wear it right now as it's chilly enough here in Sunny So. Cal, gotta love it!

Once...

Emma’s baby blanket from season 1 of the hit show ‘Once upon a Time’ became an obsession of mine from the very first time I spotted it on the TV screen.  I kept looking for it every episode, as I wanted a closer look, so I could figure out the stitch pattern and perhaps make one myself.  Fortunately I found that Caitlin had posted the link to the pattern to her website on Ravelry. (Love Ravelry) How cool is it, that she knit the blanket for the show and was generous in sharing her pattern with all of us? Sweet! Thank you Caitlin.  The only modification that I made to her pattern was the edging.  I chose a crochet in lieu of a knit finish.
  This little treasure is going to a soon to be baby girl named Camryn.   I hope she loves it as much as I loved making it for her.  Like the Emma blanket, I attached a piece of muslin to it with her name embroidered using floss and edged it with a blanket stitch.  Yarn used; Spud & Chloe Outer

Hitchhikin in pink

I’ve just completed this ‘pretty in pink’ Hitchhiker Scarf.  This one is special as it is going to be sent to my dear friend Vicki for her ‘Pink Scarf’ project, make a scarf, make a difference.  Vicki is one of those wonderful people, that once you’ve met her, via her blog, travel writing or in person, you immediately feel like you’ve known her all your life.  Her generosity knows no boundaries and I so admire her tireless work helping others. Thank you Vicki for all you do.

I chose this pattern for the scarf because of what the designer Martina Behm says about why she knits.  She ‘loves to create something and have yarn in her hands’. Her intention is that her designs and the finished object should be fun. 

Isn’t that why we create, for the pure joy of it?  Her Hitchhiker pattern has given me so much happiness in the creating of the scarf.  The yarn is one of my favorites, Rain days & Wooly dogs ‘Henbane’ 100% sw merino because it is so soft and I love the variegated color way, Cheeky Blush. 

My intention for this creation is to put a smile on the recipients face.
