Splashy

I think I mentioned in a previous post that I’m obsessed with the pattern Splashy, a Crochet Flower scarf from the book ‘Crochet in Color’ by Kathy Merrick. I knew immediately upon viewing the photos that I wanted to make this scarf. I love the recommended Noro silk garden yarn because of its wonderful color changes and large selection of color combination choices. I chose to go with the Noro silk garden sock yarn with its smaller gauge to create the flowers.  I have to tell ya that I enjoyed every minute of working on this project as it kept me engaged with the addition of each new flower. So magical...  Who can resist color transitions, as they are tons of fun and the join as you go feature of this pattern reduces the amount of sewing in of loose ends. I used size 3.5mm crochet hook, 2 skeins of color no. 256 yarn and the finished dimensions are 60x14. Modifications to the pattern include; choice of yarn (sock), addition of 1 column of the large flower and 1 column of the smaller one. What really helped me along with this project was having a favorite TV series marathon running in the background.  I will always connect the show ‘Brothers and Sisters’ with the making of this project as I got thru four seasons of this much loved show.  So a bit of math is required to give you an idea of how long it took me to put this scarf together, lets see, 4 seasons, 24 episodes each at 40 minutes per = about 64 hours of hook to the yarn time. Now that’s a handy way to measure a time commitment. Both project and show receive a 5 star rating!

  8. Your Splashy Flowers scarf is lovely! The same yarn on a smaller scale is very effective.
